KnifeSubmitted by Sean Mahoney
Description: The thieves in Luskan, not aligned with the Arcane Brotherhood, are relegated to minor theft and muggings to avoid angering the more powerful guilds run by the brotherhood. Not all rogues are necessarily suited or built for the life of a thug. Small and wiry, these other thieves find themselves relying more on quick wit and skill to resolve dangerous situations. Often viewed by many thugs as easy prey, these thieves have learned to use weapons with an expertise seldom seen amongst rogurs. Acting as the "front man" for less intelligent thugs, the 'knife' as they have become known, is also skilled in the ways of nonphysical intimidation. Role: Since 'Knives' usually are looked at as the brains of most operations it is they who are most likely to become targets of the authorities. Their silver tongues can be useful in these instances as well. In an adventuring group they often comfortably fall into their role as leader or "front man" for the group, being first to engage others in conversation in a way that attempts the most gain as possible, even if this is only for information on the road ahead. Secondary Skills: Any Weapon Proficiencies: Knives can specialize in any small weapon. These weapons are easiest for the rogue as they require little strength. Unfortunately, because of they focus so much time to learning these weapons, they are unable to use anything larger even the normal weapons available to a rogue. Nonweapon Proficiencies: Required Intimidation Recommended: Warrior: Blind-Fighting, Set Snares General: Rope Use, Rogue: Local History, Tumbling, Throwing, Bribery, Fast-talking, Gather Intelligence, Looting, Observation, Trailing Wizard: Reading/ Writing. Equipment: Since knives live to intimidate they tend to try and cultivate an appearance of danger so that a fight can be avoided. To this end, they will wear their weapons in prominent locations. For instance, two sharp, curved daggers visible on their belt that they absently thumb during the conversation. Their appearance and dress as well as mannerisms tend to reflect this as well. Recommended Traits: Alertness Benefits: As stated in the WP section, the knife can specialize in one weapon of small size. Hindrances: The knife can only use weapons of size S. In addition, their tendency to quickly draw conclusions from viual cues, makes them vulnerable to mind tricks. The result of this is a -2 to save vs. illusion since they simply see it and take it as real. Wealth: Standard for the character's class.
