A Gythka is a specialized type of dagger. It has a central hole; at equal spaces around the hole, are three leaf-shaped blades. To use a Gythka the character must have at least a 15 in dexterity. It is primarily a thrown weapon but can be used as a melee weapon if necessary.
To throw the Gythka, the character holds it to the side, with palm facing up. The throw is a full arm movement with a wrist flip at the end. Because the Gythka are hurled weapons, damage bonuses for high Strength apply. Because they are so perfectly balanced or flight, they suffer the same penalties as arrows or bolts due to wind, despite their greater weight. A Character with weapon focus in the Gythka is considered proficient enough in the weapon that they can try any of the special maneuvers listed below:
- Can throw the Gythka to be deflected to hit as many targets as desired in a round. To hit the first target you roll your normal attack roll and for each additional target roll your base attack -5 cumulative (so for example to hit a third target the characters to hit roll is -10).
- The weapon spins when thrown. If thrown, it will return to the thrower, provided it was not stopped somehow.
- The Gythka can cut through light armor if it is thrown properly. Ignore all padded and leather armor when considering if an attack hits or not, only if it is thrown.
- The Gythka returns along approximately the same trajectory it traveled on the way to the target. This happens at the end of the round, so a single Gythka cannot be thrown more than once per round.
- Catching a returning Gythka is automatic and no check is required.
- If the character is distracted (such as by moving, or by being attacked), the catch requires a successful Dexterity check DC 15.
Special Rules for Magical Gythkas
- Vorpal: A Vorpal Gythka ignores all nonmagical armor, attacking as if it were a touch attack.
- Speed: The Gythka returns in time to be thrown again in the same round allowing it to be thrown twice per round.
- Returning: This has no effect on a Gythka, except it prevents it from not coming back.
- Dancing: The Gythka flies around attacking the owners enemies for 4 rounds then returns the owner to be grasped. The Gythka can only attack two opponents a round regardless of how many targets the owner could hit with the weapon.
