Warthrone

Edition:  l  D&D 3e (original)  l

Originally posted on the Realms of Evil forums (Womb of Creation), October 31, 2001. Changes the author made later in the thread are applied and listed at the end. Shown as written, with light spelling and formatting fixes only.

Caster Level: 14
Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, immunity to normal missiles, teleport without error, ESP
Market Price: 15,000
Weight: 1,200 pounds

Description

The Warthrone was devised by a Mageking of long-forgotten ages who ruled over a vast land full of treacherous subjects and would-be kings. After falling for some pretty lame tricks, the man devised his throne to read the minds of his more direct opponents and to escape his more powerful foes should the need arise.

Powers

  • The Warthrone synchronizes with the ruler of the land so that any power depends on the king's level. (In 3E every ruler has a class level, even a commoner; a 3rd-level king would use all the powers of the throne at level 3.)
  • Constant immunity to normal missiles.
  • Constant ESP.
  • Teleport without error (transports only royal blood and possessions) 1/day.
  • Alert (an alarm that can warn the guards in time).

Author's Notes and Corrections

  • Reply #5 (November 2, 2001): the author added Alert to the powers (after Bahamut suggested an alarm) and explained that the throne works at the king's class level.
  • In reply #13 the author liked the idea that a throne could only power up to its creator's level until re-enchanted by a better mage; this is not applied to the text.
