Gunther's Follyby Citadelraven.com
You ever done something so amazing that you know you will never be able to do it again? Well that is how this amazing bow got its name. Over hundred years ago, a master dwarven craftsmen began the creation of what would become his greatest success and his greatest failure. He had set out to perfect the design of the bow. He studied every type of bow known in the world and then some. He spent years in research alone. It took him ten years to collect the materials he thought best to make the bow. The rubbery skin of a kraken, dwarven blackrock, the core wood of a treant, and the web of a bebilith. The sums of money that he had stockpiled over his alustrious career were quickly dissolved as he invested coin after coin into obtaining these materials. He set up a special workshop and began constructing the bow. For over a year he maticulously carved, shaved, assembled and glued the pieces of the bow. His design called for a shortbow with such power that it could easily out shoot the greatest of elven bows. The shortbow frame was selected to make the bow less cumbersome and easier to use. It would be as strong as steel with an near unbreakable cord. When completed the bow was an absolute masterpiece. Unfortunately, in his blind desire to make it the most powerful bow built, he did not account for the strength required to wield. Gunther was distressed. He went to his chambers refusing to emerge. He died of starvation. The bow, referred to by other dwarves as Gunter's Folly was placed in a place of honor and forgotten. Gunther's Folly is a composite shortbow of flawless design and meticulous detail. Its back is engraved with numerous dwarven runes paying homage to the gods of the hunt. The bow is a glistening black that reflects crimson when it catches the light just right. It is nearly indestructable recieving a +6 to all saving throws. The string cannot be cut by anything less than a +3 weapon. Its balance and power coupled with the unique materials from which it is made, make it a composite shortbow +5. The bow is unaffected by moisture and fires arrow 50% further than a standard composite bow. The folly in the design is that no person can string the bow and fire it unless they are possessed of superhuman (19) strength.
