Malachar's Fiendstarby Shawn Muder
In the blackest pits of the nine hells, the searing flames of the lake of fire cuorse along the still soft scaley hide of a newly transformed Pit Fiend, born into the hierarchy of devils with a spectacular weapon in his hands, forged along with his very body this impressive weapon is immense in size, like its owner. Carried from the gigantic ocean of dirty red flames, the metal of the morning star still seeths with the unnatural heat of its origins. Malachar took the un-enchanted weapon into the flames when he was still a gelugon, the weapon was to be forged with his body and made to become one of the most powerful artifacts to be used in the Bloodwar against the chaotic Tanar'ri, the Baatezu's most hated and ancient enemies. Little did the Baatezu know that the weapon would gain not only its powers, but a personality as well. "Excellent, the process worked...perfectly..." The newly formed devil lord examined the now gold, spiked skull at the end of the weapon's chain and smiled, green ichor running from sharp, yellowed fangs, to drop onto the super heated rubys now placed in the eye sockets to sizzled down like some macabre tear. Malachar gripped the weapon hard in his taloned hand and tested its strength against his own and was pleased that the adamantite grip hadn't lost its spirit in the fires of his mother plane's womb. "Time to die chaos...time to taste the edge of lawful oppression and tyranny that is the Baatezu Race....." With another horrid grin the devil disappeared in a cloud of acrid smoke, to report to the Dark Eight of his and the weapons obvious successful transformation....... Appearance: The Fiendstar is a large morning star, more than 5 feet in length, it is made to be weilded by large or gargantuan creatures of at least 12 feet in height, The grip of the weapon is made of pure adamantite, wrapped in the scaley leather of a slain Balor. The chain, made of mithril is almost indestructable and gleams with a bright, almost mirrored, surface. Attached to the chain is a golden skull that glows with an inner flame, shown through the two large rubies located in it's eye sockets. Covering the skull are 17 large adamantite spikes means to impale, and then rip, an opponent's flesh with great ease. History and Personality: The Fiendstar, like any intelligent weapon, is an extreme handful at all times. The personality of the Fiendstar is one of a Gelugon that had died before its transformation completed. Seeing the weapon in the now transformed Pit Fiend's grasp the spirit of the gelugon quickly attached itself to the very magical nature of the weapon in order to escape the eternal flames it was forced to suffer. This was a unexpected development, and the lawful evil pit fiends didn't like the outcome, but were forced to deal with the new weapons overly-organized intelligence. Intelligence: 21 Colorontherese, the gelgon spirit inhabiting the morning star, is still as lawful and organized as always, and evil to its ethereal core. Malachar finds the weapon's straight forward attitude and bluntness to be tiring as it is severe, even for a Baatezu. Colorontherese loves to point out the devil lord's errors and especially finds tormenting the devil when it does something the weapon thinks is slightly chaotic in nature. Its voice is scratchy, loud and extremely annoying as it can speak with telepathy to its weilder and not even covering your ears can keep it from voicing in opinion on everything, especially battle tactics for the Bloodwar, its favorite subject. Powers and Abilities: Special Purpose: To Destroy Chaotic aligned beings and creatures The powers of the FiendStar are extensive. First, it allows any being of Lawful alignment to weild it, and unlike most weapons of high intelligence and ego, it does not try to assert control over the being weilding it as long as it is getting to destroy the chaotic creatures around it. Those of non-lawful alignments that try to touch the weapon in anyway must save vs. death magic or be consumed by the flames from the Pit of Baator, taking 8d10 points of fire damage per round, effecting even creatures who are normally immune to magical fire. The Fiendstar also gives its weilder complete immunity to normal and magical flames, heat and electricity as long as the weapon is out and in battle. Once every round the weilder can forgo his attacks and have the Fiendstar emit two beams of pure heat from the rubies in its skull, these beams extend for 50 feet and are 12 feet wide. Anyone caught in this area of effect must roll a save vs. rod, staff and wand or be completely consumed in fire, taking 3d6 points of damage per round until the flames are successfully dispelled by a mage or priest with a higher level than the weilder's. The Fiendstar also has a fearful attack that can devastate any chaotic aligned opponent by causing double damage with every blow (1d12 +5 x 2) and quadruple damage on a roll of 20 (1d12+5 x 4). All chaotic aligned opponents must roll a save vs. spell or run from the weilder in fear for 1d12 rounds + 1 round for every point of damage caused by that particular blow. The Fiendstar can detect chaotic aligned creatures within 100 yards of it and will urge its weilder to do battle with the creature no matter how powerful they are. However the Fiendstar also protects its weilder from damage by such creatures, allowing the wielder to roll a save vs. spell for every missile, melee or directed spell attack targeting him, if they pass the save then the attack simply doesn't effect the weilder in anyway as they are deflected by the weapon's natural Chaos Ward, granted to it by its dual existence in Baator and whatever plane it is currently on. There is one turn back for this weapon. It will not attack any crature of a lawful alignment, whether they are lawful good or neutral. The weapon simply cannot tell the different between good and evil anymore and only sees chaos and law. If the weilder attempts to attack another being of lawful alignment they will always miss with every attack, and have a 25% chance that the attack actually effects them instead (Example: Malachar swings the morningstar at a lawful good paladin, the weapon, seeing that the victim is lawful in alignment stiffens the chain attached to the skull, causing the end to swing up and strike the pit fiend in the head, causing him to take normal damage for the weapon.) This weapon does not function on the following planes of existence, making it a normal morningstar + 4: Limbo and Pandemonium. Location: The Pit Fiend, Malachar was destroyed in a battle on th world of Toril (The Forgotten Realms) after being employed by the Lich Zanatose to help in the destruction of the Lich God Velsharoon. On a lucky strike from a Balor's vorpal sword (a natural 20)and a bad roll on the Chaos Ward effect (a natural 1), the pit fiend lost his head and fell to the ground in a pile of useless flesh, dropping the Fiendstar and then being planeshifted back to Baator. The morning star is now in the vault inside Black Bone Keep, awaiting the return of its master, or a new, lawful being to use it in the destruction of all things chaotic.
