2E Monsters: Colos
Colos are large quadripedal creatures that resemble a horse in general shape and build. They have shaggy fur coats that can be white, chestnut, gray, brown or black. Unlike their smaller cousins, colos are always one color. The males have a short beard at the ends of their muzzles. They are very muscular and stand nearly eight feet high at their backs. Their tails are short stubs and do not sport the long hair of their cousins. The most striking feature of the animals are their goat like horns that curl around each side of their head. Combat: Colos are natural combatants moreso than the sturdiest of warhorses. Much like a warhorse, they will fight independantly of their rider when engaged in melee. However, they prefer to charge into combat using their massive horns to knock their enemies to the ground where they can be easily trampled. Because of their natural weaponry, colos have always been an agressive animal. As a result, they rarely panick (5% chance). Habitat/Society: Colos are large majestic looking creatures. Their shaggy coat gives them a fierce wild look that intimidates many. They have a very high level of strength and endurance. They are generally found in the wild in small herds. Those colos that have been domesticated make for the best war and draft horses in the land. A single colos can do the job of two draft horses. Even more attractive is their ability to be trained as warhorses. Their usefulness there is also limited as the average man cannot easily mount them without significant aid. Where they have found their greatest uses, are as mounts for some of the larger races including minotaurs, ogres and the occasional firbolg.
