Pirotess is of the otherwordly race known as tieflings. She is slightly over five foot with a powerful, graceful frame. Her Skin is the color of a person with a deep tan and her hair is stark white. She is extremely shapely and can attract any man with little effort. Despite her physical beauty, she has a chip on her shoulder the size of Waterdeep. She is easily angered and quick to lash out at her percieved enemies.

Sneak Attack (Ex): +2d6 damage against a flat-footed or flanked foe, or one denied its Dexterity bonus.
Evasion (Ex): No damage on a successful Reflex save against an effect that normally deals half damage on a save.
Uncanny Dodge (Ex): She keeps her Dexterity bonus to AC when flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker.
Tiefling Traits: Darkness once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level 7th), darkvision 60 feet (her 2e infravision), and resistance 5 to cold, electricity and fire.
Whip: A whip deals no damage to a creature with an armor bonus of +1 or more or a natural armor bonus of +3 or more. She can use it to make trip and disarm attempts, which is how she entangles foes.

Domains: Destruction (smite 1/day: +4 on one melee attack roll and +3 damage) and Magic (uses scrolls, wands and other spell-completion and spell-trigger items as a 1st-level wizard). Pirotess rebukes undead and spontaneously converts prepared spells into inflict spells.

Cleric Spells Prepared (caster level 3rd; save DC 13 + spell level):
0—detect magic, guidance, resistance, virtue;
1st—cause fear, command, divine favor, inflict light wounds*;
2nd—hold person, sound burst, shatter*.
*Domain spell.

Poison Resistance (carried over from 2nd Edition): +2 on saves against poison (included above).

Possessions: +1 longsword, stiletto (dagger), whip, bracers of armor +4, 3 flasks of alchemist's fire (her 2e Greek oils), 50 ft. of silk rope with grappling hook, backpack, belt pouch, bedroll, flint and steel, whetstone, white leather knee boots and skirt, white tunic trimmed in gold, black short vest trimmed in gold, fur-lined white cloak.

Conversion notes (how conversions are made):

  • Her 2e Thief 4/Cleric 3 multiclass becomes Rogue 4/Cleric 3, 7th level in all. The tiefling's +1 level adjustment makes her an 8th-level character for experience and party balance.
  • Her 2e entry names no deity, and her spheres are broad. Destruction and Magic are the core domains closest to her Combat sphere and her access to wizard alteration and invocation/evocation spells. In 3.5 a cleric can serve a cause rather than a god. Rebuking undead and spontaneous inflict spells are the conversion's choice for a chaotic neutral cleric; her 2e entry doesn't say.
  • Neither rogues nor clerics are proficient with the longsword, so one feat goes to Martial Weapon Proficiency (longsword). Her Ambidexterity and two-weapon style specialization become Two-Weapon Fighting. Longsword specialization needs 4 fighter levels in 3.5, so it isn't converted.
  • The 3.5 tiefling's resistance 5 to cold, electricity and fire replaces her 2e half damage from cold and +2 saves against fire and electricity. Her +2 against poison is carried over.
  • Her 2e Allure and Keen Touch traits are folded into her skills: Allure into Bluff and Diplomacy, Keen Touch into Open Lock, Disable Device and Sleight of Hand.
  • Thief percentages become skill ranks. Read Languages has no direct 3.5 skill and isn't converted.
  • Bracers of defense AC 6 become bracers of armor +4, and her Greek oils become alchemist's fire.

Hellish Resistance: Pirotess has resistance to fire damage.
Sneak Attack (1/Turn): An extra 7 (2d6) damage with a finesse or ranged weapon (her stiletto or whip, not her longsword) when she has advantage on the attack, or an ally is within 5 feet of the target.
Cunning Action: Dash, Disengage or Hide as a bonus action.
Fast Hands: As a bonus action she can make a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check, use her thieves' tools, or take the Use an Object action.
Second-Story Work: Climbing costs her no extra movement, and her running jumps reach 4 feet farther.
Expertise: Deception and thieves' tools (included above).
War Priest (3/Long Rest): When she takes the Attack action, she can make one weapon attack as a bonus action.
Channel Divinity (1/Rest): Turn Undead (DC 14), or Guided Strike: +10 to one attack roll after seeing the roll.

Actions
+1 Longsword: Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+4) slashing damage, or 9 (1d10+4) if used with two hands.
Stiletto (Dagger): Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d4+4) piercing damage.
Whip: Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d4+4) slashing damage.
Sacred Flame (Cantrip): One creature she can see within 60 feet must succeed on a DC 14 Dexterity save or take 9 (2d8) radiant damage.

Bonus Actions
Off-Hand Attack: After attacking with her longsword, she attacks with her stiletto; it deals 2 (1d4) piercing damage on a hit (Dual Wielder lets her pair the longsword with it).
War Priest Attack, Cunning Action or Fast Hands (above).

Reactions
Hellish Rebuke (1/Long Rest): When a creature she can see within 60 feet damages her, it makes a DC 15 Dexterity save, taking 16 (3d10) fire damage on a failure or half as much on a success.

Spellcasting: Pirotess is a 3rd-level cleric spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 14, +6 to hit with spell attacks).
Cantrips (at will): guidance, resistance, sacred flame
1st level (4 slots): bless, command, divine favor*, guiding bolt, inflict wounds, shield of faith*
2nd level (2 slots): blindness/deafness, hold person, magic weapon*, spiritual weapon*
*War domain spell, always prepared.
Infernal Legacy: She knows thaumaturgy, and can cast hellish rebuke (above) and darkness once each per long rest, using Charisma (spell save DC 15).

Tiefling Resistances (carried over from 2nd Edition): Pirotess has resistance to cold damage, and advantage on saving throws against poison and against effects that deal lightning damage.

Possessions: +1 longsword, stiletto (dagger), whip, bracers of defense, 3 flasks of alchemist's fire (her 2e Greek oils), 50 ft. of silk rope, grappling hook, thieves' tools, backpack, pouch, bedroll, tinderbox, whetstone, white leather knee boots and skirt, white tunic trimmed in gold, black short vest trimmed in gold, fur-lined white cloak.

Conversion notes (how conversions are made):

  • Her 2e Thief 4/Cleric 3 multiclass becomes Rogue 4/Cleric 3, 7th level in all, with a +3 proficiency bonus. Rogue is her first class, so her hit points start from a full d8.
  • The Thief subclass's Second-Story Work fits her 85% Climb Walls. The War Domain stands for her Combat sphere, and its martial weapon proficiency covers her whip; rogues already use longswords.
  • Her one Ability Score Improvement (rogue 4th level) goes to Dual Wielder, which her 2e Ambidexterity and two-weapon style specialization point to: without it she couldn't pair a longsword with her stiletto. 5e has no weapon specialization, so her longsword specialization isn't converted.
  • Expertise in Deception and thieves' tools stands for her 2e Allure and Keen Touch traits. The Urchin background reflects her years on the streets of Sigil; Elvish is kept from her 2e languages.
  • The 5e tiefling's Infernal Legacy darkness matches her 2e darkness once per day, and Hellish Resistance (fire) replaces her +2 save against fire. Her cold resistance (2e half damage from cold) and her saves against lightning and poison are carried over.
  • Her 2e backstab becomes Sneak Attack, which in 5e needs a finesse or ranged weapon, so it works with her stiletto or whip but not her longsword.
  • 5e has no rules for entangling with a whip, so that tactic from her Combat notes has no game effect here.
  • Bracers of defense AC 6 become the 5e bracers of defense (+2 AC without armor or a shield), and her Greek oils become alchemist's fire.

Combat: Pirotess is a viscious and unpredictable opponent. She usually begins combat by throwing her stiletto then engaging in melee. She uses her whip to entangle opponents and ruthlessly kills them while they are helpless. She saves her spells for distance attacks and suprise effect.

History: Pirotess like any tiefling reveals very little about her past. What little she has revealed says that she once lived on the streets of Sigil. On a whim she followed some clueless through a planar gate and ended up on Abeir-Toril. She has grown quite accustomed to life on Toril. Her exotic appearance allows her to manipulate almost any male. She enjoys toying with men and makes a past time out of it during her adventures. No one's sure what happened to her last adventuring group but its believed that she manipulated the two warriors against each other and killed the weakened victor, thereby making off with their entire take from their treasure hunting.
