Half Dwarf

They say that love is blind, and most folks who have seen a human and a dwarf as mates would tend to agree. What a human male would ever see in a ruddy female dwarf or how a wisp of a girl could appeal to a hardy dwarven male is beyond the comprehension of most.

Half-dwarves are as hard as the life they lead. Like most half-breed races, half-dwarves are usually never fully accepted by either of their parents races. A half-dwarf among dwarves will find himself living a dismal life for his human parent has gifted him with great height and the dwarf sized tunnels tend to be confining. However, their natural strength and health make them hearty workers and metalsmiths. Amongst humans, a half-dwarf can usually pass as a barbarian due to his immense size and sturdy build.

Personality: Half-Dwarves tend to have the gruff, no-nonsense demeanor of a dwarf. They tend to brood. Half-dwarves however are often driven to prove themselves and their ambition has few limits.

Physical Description:Unlike a half-elf who tends to represent a blend of both of his parents, a half-dwarf tends to break this mold. Half-Dwarves are well muscled individuals with little to no body fat. They typically stand 6 to 7 feet in height and weigh from 250 to 300 pounds. Females tend to be only slight smaller but are as well muscled and athletic as any male. All half-dwarves, including females, are totally hairless, something most dwarves find disturbing. They tend to have large foreheads, a gift of the dwarven parent. They also have slightly pointed ears, although no one has quite figured out from which parent they are inherited. Half-Dwarves reach maturity at about age 20 and can live to be 120 years old.

Most half-dwarves result from the mating of a dwarven male with a human female although the reverse condition has been know to happen. Few half-dwarves ever settle down. THose that do however produce offspring and strong and healthy as themselves no matter with whom they mate.

Relations:Half-Dwarves as a general rule tend to get along well with both their parent races. Unlike half-elves, they are generally better received by both. They dislike half-orcs and find elves to be self-centered and distant. They mix well with half-elves and are decidedly indifferent to halflings and gnomes. Half-dwarves are generally creatures of strength and action and they will work well with those of similar mentality, barring half-orcs that is.

Alignment: Half-Dwarves are as diverse as humans in alignment. Few however fall into the extremes of Lawful Good or Chaotic Evil. instead, they are usually somewhere in between.

Half-Dwarven Lands: Half-Dwarves have no lands of their own. They are usually widely accepted amongst humans. Their acceptance in dwarven lands is equal to that of a human or half-elf.

Religion: Half-Dwarves raised among dwarves tend to worship Moradin. Those raise by humans, tend to favor Kord.

Language: Half-Dwarves are readily fluent in common and dwarven. Half-Dwarves raised by dwarves tend to speak with dwarven grammar. Although the reverse is not true of half-dwarves raise by humans.

Names: Half-Dwarves favor hard, powerful names with strong consonants and few syllables. Half-Dwarves that are given human names tend to change them when the come of age. Half-Dwarves given dwarven names tend to keep them.

Adventurers: Half-Dwarves tend to make their careers where their strength can work to their advantage. Half-Dwarves are commonly found fighting in the games, working in the military or testing their metal against the many adventures in the world.

HALF-DWARVEN RACIAL ABILITIES

  • +2 Strength, +1 Constitution, -1 Intelligence, -2 Charisma: Half-Dwarves are strong and healthy of body but aren't as sharp as either of their parents. While not exactly ugly, their foreign features usually result in negative reactions.
  • Medium-size: As Medium-size creatures, half-dwarves have special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Half-Dwarf base speed is 30 feet.
  • +4 racial bonus on Endurance Checks. Half-Dwarves receive a bonus on all Endurance checks as if they have the Endurance Feat. (See page 82 PHB). Half-Dwarves who take the Endurance feat may combine the two modifiers.
  • Dwarf Blood: For all special abilities and effects, a half-dwarf is considered a dwarf. Half-Dwarves, for example, can use special dwarven weapons or magic items with racially specific dwarf powers as if the were a dwarf.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and Dwarven. Bonus Languages: Any if raise by humans. If raised by dwarves: Giant, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, Terran, and Undercommon.
