Christov's Crown
by Asharak

Edition: l D&D 3e (original) l
Originally posted on the Realms of Evil forums (Womb of Creation), January 30, 2002. The author called it "the first of Christov's artifacts converted to 3E"; Christov's sword is Valene. Shown as written, with light spelling and formatting fixes only.
"By Vecna's rotting ass, lets get out of here! Robbing the barons is one thing, but an archmage? This cant be good!" Essak Tryfan whispered angrily to his companion "Lets get out of here, we're almost dead after that battle with that..that THING! I don't know how much more we can take!"
"You saw the crown! Essak, you saw him in the field that day! I am nowhere near the wizard he is, not by far, but if I could get that crown..." Richard Abbadon trailed off with a look of ecstasy on his face "I could leave this city and build my own tower, all we have to do is get that crown! We would be unstoppable!"
Christov's Crown: The crown of Christov is fine circlet woven of silver strands, and gold runes. Almost as much a symbol of the archmage as his other artifacts, this crown is a wonder of arcane. It shines with arcane energy, and enhances the wearer with a +4 intelligence bonus. In addition, the energy seems to have the ability to foil scrying, as if the target is under a Non-detection spell.
There are 10 "eyes" that reside in the runes on the crown, each with its own power. All abilities are free actions, and the DC is 26 for all saves. The eyes constantly orbit the wearer of the crown, and as he/she may see out of them, this prevents flanking. They may be sent up to a mile in distance to spy for the wearer, just like an arcane eye. Any spell the wearer receives that affects his/her vision also affects the eyes. As a free action the wearer may call the eyes back to the crown. While they are all attached, none of their invoked abilities may be used, but the wearer gains the benefits of a foresight spell.
- The eye of the Magi is a diamond with a light blue focus in the center. It sheds an aura that grants SR 16 and a damage reduction of 10/Energy. 3/day it can cast an Arcane Bolt for 10d6 points of damage.
- The eye of the Blade is a miniature sword, cast of mithril and adorned with tiny prisms. Once activated it swirls around the wearer's body, deflecting any physical attacks (+6 AC deflection). If grasped the sword acts as a +3 Keen Frost Shock Brilliant energy Longsword capable of casting Tenser's transformation 3/day. If it is not activated, the eye channels its energy into its wearer's weapon, adding the Bane quality to it.
- The eye of venom is a glowing green emerald with a cat like iris carved out of jet. The eye grants an innate resistance to poison, granting a +5 on any fortitude saves against it. It may be utilized to cast the Poison spell 1/day.
- The eye of stone is mad from finely polished marble in the shape of and eye, with the iris being a natural star sapphire embedded in the stone. The eye will cast Stone to flesh on its wearer if ever they become petrified. In addition, the stone may petrify others by use of the spell Flesh to stone useable 1/day.
- The eye of light is a rather large black pearl that shines a white light (think of a solar eclipse). The light it shines dispels all magical darkness, magical blindness, and breaks up illusions (note that this affects the wearer ONLY.) At will it may glow as the Daylight spell and once per day it may blaze forth with a Sunburst.
- The eye of artifice resembles a tiny circuitboard made of crystal and gold. It repels attacks from magical items; anytime a power is from a magical item is used against the wearer the eye absorbs it as its equivalent spell level. Up to 25 spell levels may be absorbed in one day, and then used to power the wearers (if a spell caster) spells. At the time of spell casting the spell caster may release a spell level from the eye with the spell being cast in order to affect it with a metamagic effect. The metamagic effect must be one already learned by the wearer, and no more then 5 levels may be used per spell. In dire circumstances the eye is capable of releasing a Mordenkainen's disjunction 1/day.
- The eye of the mind is a pink diamond, shot through with lines of mithril, which pulse with a slow white glow. It reinforces the wearer's free will, providing a +6 circumstance bonus to any will save against enchantment special effects (psionics included). The eye may also discharge its arcane energy in a Mass Charm 1/day.
- The eye of chance is a constantly sifting blob of light and color, which brings the light of chaos to its wearer. Each time a roll has to be made, roll 1d4, and add the result to the roll (Saves, attack roles, spell DC, ect...). The stone also has the ability to throw the wearer back in time. Once per week, the wearer may travel back into time a number of rounds equal to his wizard levels.
- The eye of nature is a piece of green jet carved into the shape of an oak leaf. The wearer gains the skill Wilderness lore, with 20 ranks in the skill, in addition to whatever they might have had previously. In emergencies, the eye may enact a Shapechange spell, but my only be used to change into animals or plant-like beings. 1/day.
- The eye of death is a tiny skull carved of ivory with pulsing purple eyes. The skull bestows a permanent Deathwatch, as well as adding a +1 to the DC of any necromancy spells cast. Once per day it allows the wearer to scream like a Wail of the banshee, and as soon as darkness falls the corpses are affected by a Create undead spell. The wearer decides which undead they animate as.
