The Archmage Christov created his sword after defeating the assassin Larlochii and gaining possession of his Poisoned Sunblade. After 30 years of crafting and experimenting on the corrupted weapon, the sword Valene was completed. The size of a greatsword, Valene functions for all purposes as a longsword. The blade is made of mithril, with swirls of celestian gold throughout. Three large glowing diamonds are set in a line along the blade. The handle is made of wrapped black wire, with golden runes cast onto it. The hilt and pommel are forged of celestian gold, with runes carved all over the surface.

Constant Powers: The sword is a +6 goldflame magiusblade. When grasped it shields the holder from all forms of fear. The wielder is under the constant effects of a protection from normal missiles spell. It may be dispelled, but will be resumed as a free action. Christov's blade bursts into flame when in combat with evil, bringing to full use its goldflame powers. Each combat round the sword shoots two small balls of gold flame towards 2 random targets within 20 feet. If struck (Reflex save DC 20 to avoid), they are affected by one of the following spells:

1. flame strike
2. reverse gravity
3. ray of enfeeblement
4. holy smite
5. web
6. hold monster
7. slow
8. disintegrate
9. power word, stun
10. eyebite (fear)

These are also the spells imbued in the blade by the magiusblade quality.

Sentient Powers: The blade has Int 22, Wis 16, and Cha 24, with an Ego of 38. Valene is chaotic good, but will faithfully serve any paladin that grasps it. Valene communicates through telepathy and speaks in a clear ringing voice, but is rather outrageous in its declarations, insisting that it needs more action. "Bash this, slice that, castrate whatever. How come I don't get to do any of the fun stuff?" is a common lament of the sword. It has the spellcasting ability of a 10th-level sorcerer, and casts spells from the domains of Good, Healing, and Destruction. It uses its spells against underlings, allowing its wielder to concentrate on the main foe. Note that anything slain by the blade cannot be raised as undead.
