Glotolith are loathsome quadripedal tanar'ri that roam the Abyss in packs and serve as mounts to more powerful tanar'ri. They have a hard exoskeleton that is as black as night. The exoskelton is lined with ridges and spikes that give it a menacing appearance. Their legs are powerfully built and jointed much like a crickets allowing them to jump great distances and giving them a bouncing side to side gait when they walk. Their heads extend straight forward from their bodies unlike a horse; they have practically no neck. They have gaunt humanoid heads with small black eyes. Their mouth is lined with razor sharp teeth that can snap forth to grasp its prey much like a shark.

Combat: Glotolith prefer to hunt in packs, roaming the Abyss and attacking manes and the clueless who blunder there. They use their powerful legs to spring upon their prey from great distances causing a -2 on suprise checks. They fight in combat with claws and their powerful jaws, rending flesh from the bone. If their prey manages to get behind them, they use their powerful legs kick them. The sod must make a save vs. paralyzation or fall prone after such a kick.

Glotolith have all of the powers and immunities inherent to least tanar'ri. In packs, they are proven to be deadly. When serving as cavalry units, the glotolith are unrivaled. Serving as mounts for greater tanar'ri and abyssal warriors, their high intelligence allows them to function as a cohesive unit with little control from their rider. This allows those riding the glotolith to concentrate upon the attack.

Habitat/Society: Glotolith live in packs much the same as wolves. They have no familial instincts whatsoever. Sine they are spawned from the very plane itself, these creatures have no young. They wander most layers of the Abyss adapting easily to the harsh environs. Glotolith are not easily convinced to be mounts. Their high intelligence makes them exceptionally obstinant. They are usually cowed into service with promises of death and destruction, a little fresh meat never hurts.

Ecology: Glotolith wander the Abyss hunting down unwanted visitors including planewalkers and especially Baatezu. They have been known to attack other tanar'ri on occasion. Manes seem to be the favorite meal of the loathsome beasts. They can be found on almost all layers of the Abyss but favor those with rocky mountainous terrain that allows them to pounce on their victims from above.
