LanguagesCommon, Elven, Draconic, Orc, Sylvan, Undercommon

Sneak Attack (Ex): +2d6 damage against a flat-footed or flanked foe, or one denied its Dexterity bonus.
Evasion (Ex): No damage on a successful Reflex save against an effect that normally deals half damage on a save.
Elf Traits: Immune to magic sleep, +2 on saves against enchantments, low-light vision, and a Search check to notice any secret door he passes within 5 feet.
Bladesong: The site's Bladesong fighting style becomes his feats: two-weapon fighting for his paired scimitars, Combat Expertise for its blocks, and Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack for its constant movement.

Drow Heritage (carried over from 2nd Edition): Once per day each, as spell-like abilities (caster level 15th): dancing lights, darkness, detect evil or detect good (for know alignment), detect magic, faerie fire, levitate.
Cold Resistance (carried over from 2nd Edition): +1 on saves against cold effects.

Blazer: A +3 speed scimitar that gives an extra attack on a full attack and +2 on initiative (included above), and is bound to Valas.
Moonarc: A +2 giant bane mithral scimitar that glows softly, and blazes when giants are near.
Full rules for both are on their item pages.

Possessions: Blazer, Moonarc, +4 elven chain of spell resistance (SR 19), +1 whip, +2 scimitar, 2 masterwork daggers of dwarven make, longbow, hand crossbow with 3 bolts of darkness, ring of minor fire resistance, ring of freedom of movement, ring of water breathing, Harper pin, emerald earring.

Conversion notes (how conversions are made):

  • His 2e Warrior 12/Thief 3 multiclass becomes Fighter 12/Rogue 3, 15th level in all. In 2e a multiclass character advances in both classes at once, so the levels are added together.
  • His chainmail of magic resistance +4 becomes +4 elven chain of spell resistance: ordinary chainmail would cap his Dexterity bonus at +2, and elven chain is the traditional elven armor. Spell resistance 19 is the closest armor property to his 2e 75% magic resistance.
  • Scimitars aren't light weapons in 3.5, so Weapon Finesse doesn't apply and his two-weapon penalties are −4. His 2e grand mastery becomes Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization and their Greater versions.
  • The whip and hand crossbow are exotic weapons in 3.5. They stay in his possessions, but his 2e whip specialization isn't converted.
  • Blazer and Moonarc now have 3.5 and 5e versions on their item pages (Blazer, Moonarc).
  • His drow-blooded innate spells and his cold resistance are carried over from 2e. 3.5 has no know alignment, so it becomes detect evil or detect good. His 90-foot infravision becomes the elf's low-light vision.
  • His Harper pin, ring of water breathing and bolts of darkness have no core 3.5 equivalent and keep their 2e names; the Harper pin's powers work as written in his 2e entry.

Fey Ancestry: Valas has advantage on saves against being charmed, and magic can't put him to sleep.
Magic Resistance: While wearing his chain shirt, Valas has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Extra Attack (2): Valas attacks three times when he takes the Attack action.
Two-Weapon Fighting: His bonus-action off-hand attack adds his Dexterity modifier to damage.
Action Surge (1/Rest), Second Wind (1/Rest), Indomitable (1/Day).
Combat Superiority (Bladesong): Valas has five d10 superiority dice (regained on a short or long rest) and these maneuvers, save DC 18: Disarming Attack, Evasive Footwork, Feinting Attack, Lunging Attack, Parry, Riposte, Trip Attack.
Sneak Attack (1/Turn): An extra 7 (2d6) damage when he has advantage on the attack, or an ally is within 5 feet of the target.
Cunning Action: Dash, Disengage or Hide as a bonus action.
Fancy Footwork: A creature Valas makes a melee attack against can't make opportunity attacks against him for the rest of his turn.
Rakish Audacity: He adds his Charisma modifier to initiative, and gets Sneak Attack against a creature within 5 feet of him if no other creature is within 5 feet of him and he doesn't have disadvantage.
Initiative: +15 (Dexterity +5, Alert +5, Rakish Audacity +3, Blazer +2); Alert also means he can't be surprised while conscious.
Expertise: Acrobatics and Stealth (included above).

Actions
Blazer (+3 Scimitar): Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (1d6+8) slashing damage.
Moonarc (+2 Scimitar): Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d6+7) slashing damage, plus 7 (2d6) slashing damage against a giant.
Whip (+1): Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d4+6) slashing damage.
Longbow: Ranged Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8+5) piercing damage.

Bonus Actions
Off-Hand or Blazer Attack: Valas makes one more attack with Moonarc (Two-Weapon Fighting) or with Blazer (its speed property).

Drow Heritage (carried over from 2nd Edition): Valas can cast dancing lights at will, and once each per long rest darkness, detect evil and good (for know alignment), detect magic, faerie fire and levitate, using Charisma (spell save DC 16). High elf cantrip: prestidigitation.
Cold Resistance (carried over from 2nd Edition): Valas has advantage on saves against cold effects.

Blazer (very rare, attunement): +3 scimitar, +2 initiative, a bonus-action attack, and bound to its owner.
Moonarc (rare): +2 scimitar that deals an extra 2d6 damage to giants and glows when they're near.
Chain shirt (armor (chain shirt), legendary, requires attunement): His 2e chainmail of magic resistance; a +3 chain shirt that grants Magic Resistance (above).

Possessions: Blazer, Moonarc, +3 chain shirt of magic resistance, +1 whip, +2 scimitar, 2 daggers of dwarven make, longbow, hand crossbow with 3 bolts of darkness, ring of resistance (fire), ring of free action, ring of water breathing, Harper pin, emerald earring.

Conversion notes (how conversions are made):

  • His 2e Warrior 12/Thief 3 multiclass becomes Fighter 12/Rogue 3, 15th level in all, with a +5 proficiency bonus.
  • Battle Master maneuvers stand in for the site's Bladesong fighting style; Swashbuckler fits his fast, mobile dueling. The Harper Faction Agent background is from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and the Swashbuckler from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.
  • His four fighter Ability Score Improvements are spent on Alert (his 2e Alertness trait), Dual Wielder, Mobile and the ability scores shown.
  • 5e has no +4 armor or magic resistance percentages, so his chainmail of magic resistance +4 becomes a legendary +3 chain shirt that grants advantage on saves against spells. A chain shirt keeps more of his Dexterity bonus than chain mail.
  • See the item pages for the 5e versions of Blazer and Moonarc.
  • His drow-blooded innate spells and cold resistance are carried over from 2e; know alignment becomes detect evil and good. He is built as a high elf, so he doesn't have the drow's sunlight sensitivity.
  • His Harper pin, ring of water breathing and bolts of darkness keep their 2e names; the Harper pin's powers work as written in his 2e entry.

Combat: Valas fears no man in single combat. When fighting weak enemies, Valas has been know to toy with his enemies just for the fun of it. His mastery of the scmitar and the bladesong fighting style make him a match for any humanoid foe. His fighting style relies on speed and movement.

Valas is by no means arogant to the point of stupidity. He knows his limits and is especially wary when fighting monsters or large humanoids that can pass his defense with brute force.

History: Valas began his adventuring career as an infiltraitor for the Harpers. His father, a Harper himself, had raised Valas alone, training him as a warrior. His mother was until recently believed to be dead. On an early mission to Tantras, Valas' mission was foiled and he was framed for murder in Tantras. He was subsequently arrested. He was inadvertantly released from prison when his future companions and dearest friends raided the prison cells. With Valas' knowledge of the city they were able to make good on their escape. Valas spent many years adventuring in the company of Brother Orocran Oneais (level 6/6 mage/ priest) of Mystra and Kalidor (lvl 9 barbarian)of the Uthgardt Barbarians. They are his dearest friends and would gladly take up arms to aid him.

After many years of adventuring the group went their seperate ways. Valas' path led him back to the Harpers. It was there, on a mission to Skullport where Valas learned the truth about himself and his mother. Valas is the son of Qilue Veladorn and Arrowyn Moonflight. Upon his birth, bearing no outward markings of his mothers drow heritage, it was decided that it would be best to raise him on the surface away from his mother. Valas has had difficulty coming to grips with his heritage and has spent a great deal of time with the priestesses of Ellistraee so that he might better understand his mother.
