Sanctuary
XP Value: 80,000
GP Value: 750,000
Desciption: Sanctuary is a suit of three quarter plate of traditional design. It is made of an ivory metal that is believed to be an adamantium alloy. The armor has no matching helm but a deep cowl protects the sides and back of the neck. The neckline is adorned with a wide band of golden scroll work that dates back in design thousands of years. The armors other decoration is the wide belt that has similar scrollwork and has a large, smooth oval gem in the center. The leg grieves and arm plates are trimmed sparingly in the same scrollwork. The armor also has a set of metal gauntlets that are decorated in much the same manner as the belt, a large gemstone is located on the back of each hand.
History: Di'terli watched in satisfaction as the dwarf put the final etchings into the breast plate of the armor. The armored gauntlets and the jeweled belt lay on a table already complete. Di'terli was anxious to see the completion of this armor. He was normally a patient being but the creation of such a splendid piece of armor brought a hint of deep satisfaction to the solar; knowing that the wearer would soon be striking down evil abroad he smiled to himself in satidfaction. He had given a bit of himself into the armors creation, The dwarves of Mount Clangeddin had used their remarkable skills to trap that essence into the armor. Despite his weakened state, Di'terli watched with anticipation as the dwarf completed his work.
Normally, a creature of Di'terli's power was beyond suprise, normally, he would have sensed the approach of evil, however, in his weakened state, those warnings did not come. Barakus, Di'terli's eternal enemy, a balor of immense power had heard of the solars plans to create this item. He knew that the solar would be in a wekened state. All this and more he knew and so as the armor was finished, as Di'terli marvelled at the flawlessness of the design, Barakus attacked. Barakus descended upon Di'terli and struck savagely with his lightning blade; a blow that the solar would have normally shrugged away. Instead, the blade wounded him mortally. The dwarf watched in stunned horror as the magnificent beauty of the solar was hacked to peaces by the balor.
After completing the first part of his task, Barakus made for the suit of armor, casually slaughtering the dwarf as he went by. Barakus' suprise was complete when the armor sent a jolt of energy through his body that numbed him to the bone. Cursing in frustration, knowing he could not move the armor, he used a spell to banish it from the planes hoping to hide it from the meddlesome aasimon's. Sensing the imminent arrival of many foe's, Barackus swept up the broken form of Di'terli and travelled back to his home in the Abyss.
Powers: Sanctuary is a unique suit of armor composed of three elements each of which has its own powers and abilities. When all three are worn together however the abilites of the armor make the wearer near unstoppable. The armor is indestructable so it is only a matter of time before the forces of light discover its location.
The Sanctuary Plate is a suit of three quarter plate +3. The unknown metal that it is made from makes it extremely light; it weighs in at just over ten pounds for the entire suit. The armor has a constant protection from evil with a 50' radius and may only be worn by characters of lawful good alignment.
The girdle (belt) acts as a girdle of hill giant strength(19). In addition, it will protect the wearer with a featherfall if they fall more than ten feet. This dirdle may be worn by any creature of nonevil alignment.
Finally, the gauntlets act like and amulet of life protection. In addition, the gauntlets grant a -1 on all initiative rolls. These gauntlets may only be worn by creatures with a good alignment.
Whenever one of these peices is discovered and worn, the wearer is granted a mental image of the other two components and feels compelled to hunt the down and complete the set. Those who wish to resist this pull, must make a successful saving throw once per month with a -2 cumulative penalty. Once combined, the true powers of the Sanctuary are unleashed.
The entire suit of armor may only be worn by warriors (including paladins and rangers) of lawful good alignment. The armor will act as a suit of three quarter plate +5 and grant all of the above abilities and more. The belts powers will now increase the wearers strength to frost giant level(21) and the armor projects a protection from evil in a 70' radius. The wearer is also effected as if he has a permanent Bless spell. Once per day, the wearer can invoke either a protection from normal missles or a minor globe of invulnerability cast at their current level of experience. The power of the gauntlets is also increased, allowing the warrior to attack with any weapon as if specialized. Finally, the armor protects the wearer from all vorpal and sharpness type weapons and effects.
Curse: This powerful armor is not without its cost. Di'terli did not die when he was attacked several thousand years ago. His weakend form was taken to the pits of the Abyss where Barackus continually torches and maims his body. Once the entire suit of armor is complete, the wearer will feel compelled to travel to the Abyss and free Di'terli from his eternal torment. This urge is strong for the armor creates a empathic bond witht he solar. Each month that the person resists the urge, he must make a saving throw vs spell with a -2 penalty. Failure forces the individual to undertake a quest to find a warrior worthy of the armor that will free the solar from imprisonment.
Location: The three peices of armor were scattered across Faerun. The gauntlets are located in a drow duergar stronghold somewhere under Daggerford. The girdle is in the collection of a great red dragon who resides in the Spine of the World. The third reside in a temple of Lloth located many miles under Western Cormyr. The armor is surrounded at all hours by priestesses that try to contain its holy might with dark prayers to their goddess.
