The Firebrand
write up by Brian O'Rourke.
History: As dictated by the High Elven scribe to the court of Aslar'hath de'Nunetith, Dawyns Dansole.
During the reign of Aslar'hath de'Nunetith, the Great gray Elven lord of
Mam-daleit the Elven lands of Syria, there was a time of struggle. A war had
broken out between the elves of Mam-daleit and the Orcs of the Neighboring
lands of T'Sruthgard.
The Orcs had made it their point to enslave or destroy the elves, and had
employed Dragons to aid their quest. Shadow, black, green, red, blue, and
white, all came ready to rid the land for the price they had asked.
Aslar'hath was at a loss. His warriors, even the elite Bladesingers,
couldn't match the might of the powerful flights of Chromatic Dragons. He
knew, if he didn't act soon, that his people, and the other elves of
Mam-daleit would soon face extinction.
He meditated for days in the temple to the Elven gods and goddesses,
praying for some help. But, his plead wasn't answered by them, it was
answered by the God of magic and keeper of knowledge, Sha'Li Tien. And it was
also answered by the arrival of a dwarven smith and a human, from the Dessert
lands a weaponsmith himself. There was no real connection to the arrival
except, fate. But it was their unique skills that would save the elves.
For hours, the God of magic and keeper of knowledge spoke with the three
men, elf human, and dwarf. He told them of a weapon and the power it held,
and how the could employ it to defeat the dragons and end the war. The three
mortals and the God set to work deciding how they would go about it.
For nights on end the four worked and toiled creating the weapon, the
flames of the magical forge burning bright in the night sky for miles. The
dwarf, human, elf, and God combined the efforts to finish the weapon.
Within three days and four nights, the weapon was completed. It would be
wielded in battle against the dragons and in the end, by the hand of
Aslar'hath, the lord of the Red Dragons, Frinsgrazx, would fall to the blade,
which would come to be known as The Firebrand. And forever, the ground of its
forging, is forever warm and sparking with the magic's of its creation.
Description:
The Firebrand, when first looked upon, will appear to be a small red
dragons head nearly two feet in length. A pommel protrudes from the back of
the "head," and is protected on either sides by the dragons fanlike
projections on the sides, and its horns from the top of its head.
The face of the dragon has two rubies for eyes, which shine bright orange
when caught in the right light. Its mouth is open as if to breath its deadly
flaming breath and its teeth are ruby as well.
When the hilt and pommel of the weapon are picked up by a person of good
alignment, a blade of pure flame emits forth from the "mouth" of the dragon.
The blade takes the shape of an elongated scimitar, about 4 feet in length.
The blade feels solid to the bearer and is always warm. To anyone else, non
good aligned, who touch it. It is searing hot, dealing 2d4+4 points of
damage. The blade is extremely light(weapon speed: 3) and acts as a slashing
weapon.
When striking the weapon does a base damage of 3d4 to small/medium sized
creature and 2d10 to large sized creatures, plus the weapon bonus and an
additional 2d4+4, unless the creature is resistant to fire, then the
additional 2d4+4 is not added and the weapon acts at a +1 bonus.
